Kumarakom has lots of fun things you can do at, including a visit to the Bird Sanctuary, Parithamal, Aruvikkuzhi Waterfall and also Houseboating!

Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary

Also known as Vembanad Bird Sanctuary attracts numerous migratory birds throughout the year, it is a paradise for bird watching and wildlife enthusiasts. One can spot local birds such as waterfowl, cuckoo, egret, heron, cormorant, moorhen, darter, and brahminy kite, as well as the migratory Siberian crane among many other migratory and indigenous species. Some of the migratory birds come from the Himalayas, and a few from Siberia. Take a refreshing walk inside the forest among chirping birds and nature sounds to the watchtower. October is the perfect month to spot numerous migratory birds in the perfect weather, end your day watching the beautiful sunset against the large Vembanad lake.

Pathiramanal

Pathiramanal is a beautiful island in Allapuzha district, a 40 min boat ride from Kumarakom will take you to the beautiful and rich greens of Pathiramanal. The island is rich in flora and fauna and heaven for bird watching, it attracts hundreds of migratory birds from all over the world, one cannot miss visiting this rich island in the heart of Kerala while staying in Kumarakom. The nearest railway station from here is Alappuzha, about 16 km and the nearest airport is Cochin International Airport, about 85 km north of Alappuzha.

Houseboating

Stay in beautiful houseboats that float in the backwater of Kumarakom, take a boat ride across the largest lake in Kerala, the Vembanad lake and enjoy the beautiful mangroves as you relax on the lake in the comfort of the houseboat. Aruvikkuzhi Waterfall

The ultimate location of natural beauty, enjoy the wide and active waterfalls of Aruvikkuzhi. The waterfalls are located in Kottayam district, easily accessible from Kumarakom or Kottayam.
