Bhopal was ruled by the Nawabs or the Muslim rulers of Bhopal and the run routes are through the heritage monuments and lakes that was constructed by these rulers.
Airways:
The nearest Airport to Bhopal is the Raja Bhoj Airport, about 13 km northwest from the city centre connecting major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Pune, Goa, Kolkata, by regular flights. Taxis are available for the airport to reach the city centre.
Railways:
Bhopal Junction is the largest railway station in the city. it is a major junction along the Delhi- Chennai main line and the Central railway route from Delhi- Mumbai. Major trains going from Mumbai to Delhi via Itarsi and Jhansi also go through Bhopal. Local buses and auto-rickshaws are available to reach the city center.
Roadways:
Regular state run and private bus services connect Bhopal to Ahmedabad, Kota, Jodhpur, Nagpur, Shirdi, Pune, Jaipur, Amravati, Vadodara, Surat and Nashik.
Bhopal is known as the ‘City of Lakes’ for its various natural and artificial lakes and is also one of the greenest cities in India. Founded in 1707 by the Paramara king Bhoja, the city was the capital of the former Bhopal State, a princely state of the British ruled by the Nawabs of Bhopal. Numerous heritage structures from this period include the Taj-ul-Masajid and Taj Mahal palace. In 1984, the city was struck by the Bhopal disaster which was one of the worst industrial disasters in history. Bhopal was selected as one of the first twenty Indian cities (the first phase) to be developed as a smart city under PM Narendra Modi’s flagship Smart Cities Mission.
Bhopal is a mix of the old part of the city despite industrialization whereas the newer parts or central areas are full of gardens, parks and lakes.
