The GHR Hyderabad run routes will all start and finish at the Taramati Baradari - traversing many of the city's iconic heritage sites along the way. The run route is relatively flat and there are curved sections in a few parts - designed to fend off elephant attacks.
Did you know the Taramati Baradari is a sarai built on the banks of the Musi river in the 1800s? Read more about the Taramati Baradari, Qutb Shahi Tombs and Golconda Fort here. You will be running past all three come Run Weekend.
The GHR Hyderabad 2019 Run t-shirt is a dark shade of purple – paying tribute to the royals who ruled the kingdom of Golkonda. Its illustrations are influenced by Islamic architecture. And specifically the windows that can be spotted at many of the Qutb Shahi structures standing today – including the Taramati Baradari.
ABOUT HYDERABAD
Sure, Hyderabad’s old city is famous for its iconic heritage sites – but there is (and was) so much more intangible heritage associated with the city.
Lying on the important trade route between the port town of Masulipatam and the hinterland, Golconda rose to prominence in the international market for its diamonds. It came to be known for its great wealth during the Renaissance and is still spoken with reverence among the deep pocketed, purist, diamond traders and collectors.
Letitia Elizabeth Landon, English poet and novelist, writes a poem on the Golconda fort. Shared by Mrs. Anuradha Reddy, INTACH Hyderabad and Telangana.
The Persian diaspora in India can be traced back to the late 1800s when several Zoroastrians from Iran made their way across the Hindukush to India. The journey spanned around four countries and two continents. The main reason for their move is exemplified by Darwin’s theory of evolution. All they wanted to do was survive. And survive they did; through trade and commerce and through their prolific cafes.
