Historic Hyderabad Run – Run Report

At dawn, on Sunday, the 9th of August, over 500 runners took part in the Historic Hyderabad Run organized by Go Heritage Runs and Hyderabad Runners intended to promote the 5th edition of the Airtel Hyderabad Marathon as well as showcase some of Hyderabad’s iconic heritage monuments. The run was organized in partnership with Airtel, Telangana Tourism and the Telangana chapter of INTACH.

Runners ran along the outer periphery of the Golconda Fort, past the Qutb Shahi Tombs and finished their run at the Taramati Baradari. The run also gave AHM 2015 participants following the Hyderabad Runners marathon training plan the opportunity to complete their last long run on a scenic 32K route. Read more about these historic sites here. Two elite runners were in attendance as well – Indian Olympian Ram Singh Yadav, and 93-year old Vijay Ramchander Reddy who completed the 10K run – an elite runner in his own right.

After the run, Anuradha Reddy, Co-Convenor, INTACH Telangana reflected on the history of the Taramati Baradari, the legends surrounding it and the influence women such as Taramati had on the Qutb Shahi rulers of the 17th century.

A special note of thanks to everyone at Hyderabad Runners and Go Heritage Runs who ensured the run went off smoothly, to Telangana Tourism for providing access to the Taramati Baradari, and to INTACH Telangana for facilitating the walking tour of the Taramati Baradari.
